The Eureka Art and Culture Commission
The Eureka Art and Culture Commission advises the City of Eureka on matters pertaining to art and culture. The commission works with city staff to determine goals for enhancing quality of life and economic benefit through the arts. Members of the commission partner with other organizations, businesses and commissions to follow through on priorities. The commission values Eureka's unique community and seeks to creatively showcase it. The commission welcomes ideas from the community.
The commission consists of seven volunteer commissioners. When there is a vacancy, anyone with a deep commitment to the arts can submit an application. The mayor makes the final recommendation.
The Commission meets the third Tuesday of each month in City Council Chambers. Commission meetings are listed here. The Art and Culture Commission Powers and Duties can be found here.
Public Art Registry:
To be added to the registry, send your contact information plus a link to your
website to: info @ eureka-art-culture.com
To facilitate the development of public art in our community, the Eureka Art and Culture Commission utilizes a link registry. It is used in conjunction with the Public Art Guidelines. Anyone interested in supporting public art in a proposed project is encouraged to contact the Commission via e-mail. If you have an existing project that would benefit by artistic vision or enhancements the commission welcomes public comment at the monthly meetings. We are interested in connecting artists with projects and community members with artists.
Eureka Arts & Culture
With the largest number of artists per capita in the United States, the arts are evident everywhere. The sides of buildings are painted with colorful murals. Arts Alive!, a monthly alternative exhibit of artists' work fills the streets with throngs of people, sounds of music, and a vast assortment of art. Music events and festivals fill the streets, the harbor and bay throughout the year. Among the events are the north coast annual open studios tour, museums exhibits and festivities, jazz and dance, Indian crafts and fairs. The number and variety is too numerous to list. More information about events throughout Eureka can be found on the Convention and Tourism website.
Enhancing Arts and Culture in the Community of Eureka
The natural beauty of the rivers, giant redwoods and ocean frames the arts experience within this vibrant, artistic, northwestern Californian community.
The Art and Culture Commission, among its many purposes, exists to enhance the artistic and cultural experience for all those that live in or visit Eureka.
